Better Materials, Better Shutters

Using second-rate materials does more harm than good. Budget shutters often experience sagging, paint discoloration, and broken panels after only a few years. We believe your shutters should be built with premium materials and engineered to last. That's why we only use hardwood that doesn't sag, mortise and tenon joinery that doesn't separate, and specialty paint that doesn't fade.

Genuine Poplar Wood

Premium Hardwood

Many providers cut costs by building shutters with cheap PVC, vinyl or Medium Density Fiberboard. At HTX Shutters, we exclusively use 100% genuine basswood for every set of shutters that we build. Why? Basswood weighs less and prevents sagging, which is especially necessary for large-sized shutters. Basswood’s low shrinkage rate is also perfect for withstanding Houston's notoriously humid climate.

Mortise

Stronger Mortise & Tenon Joinery

Our competitors cut corners by using thin wooden dowels to hold together their shutters. Their approach works well for cutting costs, but not for building shutters that last. At HTX Shutters we use an advanced joinery technique known as "mortise and tenon." This time-tested method provides the tightest, strongest, and most aesthetically pleasing joint possible. Not only will your shutters look amazing, but they'll also stand the test of time.

Durable Paint Finishes For Our Shutters.png

Longer Lasting Paint

The right finish makes a world of difference. Cheap paint tends to crack, flake and discolor in as little as one year. At HTX Shutters we use a proprietary paint blend to keep your shutters looking brand new for years to come. Our specialty paint meets the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturer's Association standard for withstanding discoloration and fading. This standard examines the paint's resistance to high heat exposure, which is all too familiar here in Houston!

Aluminum Tilt-Control

One way that other providers cut costs is by using plastic tilt rods that are less rigid and less resilient to heat. This results in a less solid feel when operating louvers or when getting louvers to hold their closed position. Plastic also has a tendency to deform in the hot Houston heat. At HTX Shutters, we exclusively use aluminum tilt rods. They do a better job at operating louvers and holding them in position, while also resisting heat deformation.
